Judges 13- 15

(Monday)

Samson was given great abilities, what he did with them can teach us a lot about ourselves?

Samson is another one of those imperfect people that God chose to use. Even when the Spirit is working in his life, Samson still makes many mistakes and is often disobedient to the commands of God. His mother and father, were childless and the Angel of the Lord came to them and told them they would conceive, but they were to dedicate the child to God. And they raised him as a Nazarite. This was a person who was dedicated to God. Not all Nazarite vows were from birth like Samson’s. We only read of two others in scripture, Samuel (1 Samuel 1) and John the Baptist (Luke 1).

Samson is given incredible physical strength by God, and at first we think there are going to be great things in store for Samson but unfortunately he falls in love with a Philistine woman and coerces his parents into getting her for him. (Sounds a bit spoiled to me….) Often when we have amazing abilities we forget where those abilities come from and forget to be humble.

With great abilities and gifts comes great responsibilities. We must be willing to use them for God’s glory and not our own. Luke 12:48 tells us “From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.”

Have you been given much? Are you using your gifts and talents as you should?

Blessings
