Have you ever doubted that God is in control of the whole world?
Today’s reading shows us what a firm grip God has over all the world, over all the nations, everyone is part of God’s plan. In the first of our reading, Jeremiah prophesies against Egypt, partly for their benefit and also to show the Israelites not to rely on help coming from Egypt. Chapter 47, warns of God’s impending destruction of the Philistines. Chapter 48, is concerning the destruction of Moab. (You may recall that the Moabites are the descendants of Lot and his relations with his daughters. Genesis 19:36.) God plans to judge all the nations and not just Israel. So the question comes then to our time, is God going to call each nation of the world into account for our lack of obedience, our desire to serve other gods, our reliance upon ourselves and not on Him? Well, you know the answer to that question, it is a resounding “yes”! We will be held accountable, not only as individuals, but also as a nation. Look at the sins of these ancient nations and compare them to ours, are they any different?
We must as a country, turn our hearts back to the Lord. And our decision making should be based on sound biblical principles. But is seems like an impossible task, considering how far we have strayed in our government and even in our churches.
But the good news for us, is that we can stay close to the Lord, and He will protect us. We just need to turn our eyes towards Him and serve only Him. Amen.
