So, Joash tells the priest to make repairs to the temple. But after 23 years the work is still not done. I don’t know if you have ever had to deal with a contractor, but really 23 years and it’s not done? Looks like the priests may have been allocating the money to their own pockets. (2 Kings 12:7-8) And now that the work is being done by honest workers, it doesn’t take much time at all. (2 Kings 12:15)
How important it was for this work to be done. The filth and dirt and disrepair of the temple shows us just how far away from God the people had gone. This can happen in our lives if we let a little dirt come into our lives and we neglect to clean it out. Before you know it, your life can look like the inside of the home of a hoarder. Places that are filled to the top with junk don’t happen overnight, it takes time, it takes a progression of neglect and laziness and stubbornness. If you allow your “temple” to be cluttered with stuff even just a little, over time you will be appalled at how messy your life has become. Stay true and obedient to God’s will. Clean out the junk that is taking up room in your life.
