Words to live by, adages that ring true, the wisdom of the ages, maxims, wise sayings, truism, proverbs – wonderful words of truth. I imagine we’ve all heard some great saying over the years.  

Well, this seems like an unusual writing that has found its way into the Holy Scriptures. Have you ever wondered why Song of Solomon was included?  What is the significance of the Song of Songs for Christian readers?

Our reading today is the second part of Psalm 119. Remember before I mentioned that this psalm is all about the reading and studying and memorizing the word of God. How many different words can you find in this psalm that talk about God’s Word?

In our reading in Kings today, Solomon is visited by the Lord in a dream and is given the privilege to ask God for anything. If you could ask God for anything what would it be?

How important is reading God’s word? Just read this Psalm and you will begin to see the importance of learning and remembering God’s Word.

King David is dying and who will succeed him? Many want to wear the royal crown, but only the one that God chooses is the rightful heir.

These Psalms all have something in common. Do you see a recurring phrase being used throughout them?

The work of the church, the work of the Lord, requires many people with different gifts, talents and abilities. Each of us has been given a place to serve in the Kingdom, just like we read about today.

Let’s turn our attention today to Psalm 139. I imagine for some of you this psalm is very familiar.  

The work of the Church is about to get divided up. I am always amazed at how the God of the universe is also so concerned with details.
