Psalms 108 -110

Wednesday

I am going to focus today on Psalm 108 (it’s the first one – so hey, why not). When you pray to God do you pray for God’s help?

Praying for God’s help is an amazing privilege that we have been given, but here is something more to think about. Don’t stop there, don’t just pray to get through, don’t just pray that God will help, but instead pray for victory, pray that whatever is overwhelming you, or hurting you, or holding you back will not just be handled but rather that it will be eliminated. I think about the alcoholic. Do you pray that you can just make it through the day without a drink? That’s not a bad thing to ask for, but wouldn’t you rather have victory over your addiction? Why not ask God to remove from you any desire to drink alcohol? Why not denounce satan and bind his temptations so that drinking isn’t even an option, it is no longer appealing? This psalm ends by saying “

with God we will gain the victory, and he will trample down our enemies

.” I challenge you today that if you have a struggle in your life somewhere, that you pray this verse over and over again until you have gained, through God’s strength and power, the victory over your problem.

Singing the psalms and praying for victory,
