Numbers 28 – 30

 (Sunday)

Did you notice in today’s reading amidst all the regulations for sacrificing before God, that there are daily, weekly, monthly and annual offerings that need to be brought before God?

God wants our undivided attention in all that we do. That has never changed, never gone away. Animal sacrifice has been replaced by the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. But every day we must bring our sacrifice of praise (Hebrews 13:15), every week we must come together in worship and in prayer in a community setting – we need corporate worship. Every year Christians should remember that we are God’s chosen through festivals that mark special events. We are entering a very special time of year in the next few weeks. The Passion of Jesus is at the center of our belief and we should never forget what He did for us and continues to do for us. We should experience and celebrate God in all aspects of our lives.

We also read about the importance of making vows. Where it seems a little one sided for our contemporary eyes, we must remember that the man in ancient time was responsible for his whole family. Taking responsibility for our own actions is often lacking in our culture, let alone being responsible for someone else’s. But husband and wife aside, what this passage says to me, is that making vows should be taken more seriously than we do. Our word should be our word. And what we say, we should be sure that it is the truth.

Blessings on the day
