Luke 8

Tuesday
What part do some of the women play in the daily life of Jesus and his disciples?

As Jesus is traveling through the countryside, through villages and towns, preaching and healing, we find that he is not only accompanied by his disciples, but also by some very special women. Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Susanna and many others. These women were wealthy and were able to contribute to supporting Jesus and his disciples. These women are as faithful followers as the disciples, they are with Jesus through many events. Mary Magdalene, as you will see, is at the crucifixion and resurrection.  It is the generosity of these women that also help the ministry to continue.
As a pastor who is supported through the donations of the congregation where I minister, it is encouraging to see that God makes sure that his servants are cared for. I have always felt blessed by this fact. God has always provided for my needs, just as He has always had people who provide for other servants and even for His own Son. Jesus tells us that he has no home to lay his head. Matthew 8:20; “But Jesus said, Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but I, the Messiah, have no home of my own—no place to lay my head.”

What this tells me, is that God will provide for our needs. Jesus didn’t have a place to lay his head, or call his own, but He had people to care for his basic needs.  Not for His benefit, but for theirs. It is good for people to care for God’s messengers. The disciples will need to rely on the help of others throughout their ministries.

On a different note. I love the image of the light shining. Would you light a lamp and then hide that light? Would you accept the light of Christ into your life and keep it to yourself? We should always be ready to share and witness to our faith, the light shining in us. Apply God’s Word to help you grow. When you exercise a muscle, it becomes stronger, when you neglect it, it becomes weak, atrophied and soon becomes useless. Don’t neglect God’s Word and cause your faith to grow weaker, instead, use the Word to help you exercise your faith. How are you doing? Are you growing? Are you standing still or falling back? How are you using all that God has given you?
