Who are you looking for? Why do you look for the living among the dead?
These are amazing statements that are made by the two men the women encounter as the go to the tomb to prepare the body of Jesus. What great theological questions they offer. Jesus cannot be found sealed in a tomb, he was set free, he is not among the dead things of this world. I think too often we try to find mean to our lives in what is dead. There is no life in addictions, alcohol or drugs, pornography or gambling… these things only bring death. There is no life in a religion that is based on “self.” There is no life in “magic” or “spiritualist” or “astronomy”. These things are dead and only bring death. There is no life in worldly pleasures – it may seem like there is, but the truth is that worldly pleasures will never satisfy you – it will eventually turn into nothing.
What brings life is belief in the living, resurrected Jesus. In the life giving water of salvation only Jesus can give.
So why do we spend so much time in pursuit of things that will only bring death and so little time on Christ who brings life? Think about your past week. How much of your free time did you spend on watching TV, playing video games, surfing face book or other mindless amusements versus, how much time you spent in prayer, or reading your bible or helping out someone in need? This is not to say that these are all bad things, I think God gives us time for enjoyment and relaxation, but my question is about balance. And the ultimate question like that of the two men at the tomb, why are you looking for the living among the dead?
Praising God and working on putting my priorities in line.
