Haggai is given word from God that it is beyond time for the Jews to start rebuilding the Temple. He asks the question, “Why are you living in luxurious houses while my house lies in ruins?”
I think there is much we can learn from this question.
On a physical level, we should not neglect the work we do for our church. Whether it is in building or mission work, or teaching, or serving in the kitchen, or serving in any way, where is our priority? Do we put the church work on the back burner while we neglect the work needed to be done in and through the church?
On a spiritual level, are we neglecting our time with God in favor of doing other things? Where are our priorities when it comes to attending church, or reading our Bibles, doing daily devotions, praying? “Why are you living in luxurious houses while my house lies in ruins?”
What if God asked you, “Why are you living in worldly pleasures, while your spiritual life is lying in ruins?”
Shalom
