Here we go! The whole Bible in one year.
Some people have difficulty with the creation account. I don’t. I’m not sure if God created everything in an instant on each of the six days, but that’s clearly the explanation that He intended for us. So, if that’s how God explains it, that’s going to be good enough for me. If it happened some other way then I have to suspect that I couldn’t understand it anyway. I do have a question for those who refute the creation account: “What does your refusal to accept the text as it has been handed down to us say about your belief in the validity of God’s Word” and “What does your denial of the creation account say about your belief in God himself?”
Does it really matter how the earth was created? Not really. What really matters is our acceptance of the text as the Word of God. If I doubt these chapters, what will I do with a chapter that tells me to forgive my enemies? What about the chapter that says we will be eternally punished ? I think we are allowed to wonder, and ask ourselves “is this to be taken literally, or figuratively?” But the theories of evolution that are out there rob the text of it’s validity. For instance, if the “gap theory” is correct then there was death before sin. That shouldn’t be, because the “wages of sin is death”. Do you see what I mean?
Anyway, as we go through the Bible this year I will make an honest attempt to jot down whatever I take away from the text that day. I cannot promise that it will change your life, or add meaning and hope to an otherwise colorless day…but perhaps God will use my reflections from time to time to give you additonal insights or to stimulate new thoughts. Actually, I am praying that He does that very thing for ME, while I read this year.
Hoping you will join me, and we will both be blessed,
