Ezekiel 24-27

Monday

So Ezekiel begins his prophecies against nations other than Israel. The prophecies proclaim God’s judgment on the nations.

Seven nations are named. God is judging the Ammonites because they were jubilant when the Temple was destroyed and the Judeans were taken into exile. Their judgement will come from nomadic tribes form the desert region to the east. They will plunder settled areas and let their flocks overrun the ruined cities, and be totally destroyed. (This is a reminder to us as American’s that countries that do not stand with Israel will be judged by God.)

Edom and Israel have over the centuries been at war with each other, even though they should have acted like brothers. (Deuteronomy 23:7-8) They share the same ancestry with Jacob. Tyre is accused of rejoicing over Jerusalem’s fall and of taking advantage of receiving plunder from Jerusalem’s destruction.  Tyre is also accused of vanity and false pride and will find that her beauty and prosperity is no match for God and the “east wind.”

As we read these verses, what we learn is the sovereignty of God and His mighty power verse the pitiful accomplishments of mankind.

Why we think that we can ever out do God is beyond my understanding. I think Ezekiel has done a good job of showing us that we must be (and I am thankful for this) totally reliant on God. I have to remember that all that I have and all that I am comes from God.
