Who doesn’t need the occasional stimulation to wholesome thinking, combined with a word of encouragement? Okay Pete, let’s hear it!
2 Peter 2
Peter ends chapter 1 reminding us to listen to the prophets, because they spoke as God gave them inspiration. In this chapter he tells us to be careful of listening to the wrong prophet. Apparently there are some fake prophets out there. Here’s how to spot them:
2 Peter 1
We don’t have this option, but what if we could choose not to grow up? How long would it take for our parents to become fed up with that idea?
2 Timothy 4
How should a disciple behave when he/she realizes that the world is spiraling out of control around them? Here’s what Paul says in a few short, helpful bullet points.
2 Timothy 3
Paul’s description of the last days sounds like people have lost control. He says “they will consider nothing sacred”….oh, you mean like police officers, government, the electoral process, different races, the unborn, gender or God himself? Seriously, I can’t imagine that our culture is much different from pagan Roman culture at this point.
2 Timothy 2
Paul tells Timothy to teach basic truths, and to “think about what he has said”. Okay, Paul. Here’s what I am thinking about what you said:
2 Timothy 1
As Paul opens his second letter to Timothy, I hear the words of a Grandfather speaking to his grandson.
Hebrews 13
Stories abound about people who have been shown kindness by a mysterious stranger. Our minds tease us with ideas of their origin. Verses like 13:2 fan the flames of imagination. Have we really entertained angels without knowing it?
Hebrews 12
Don’t read this chapter without reading 11. They were meant to go together, and they lose some of their meaning when separated. If you are reading a chapter a day, at least scan through the hall of heroes before you read verse 12:1.
Hebrews 11
Chapter 10 ends with a encouragement to be like those who have remained faithful to the end, and never wavered or compromised their faith. It’s the perfect prelude to a very famous chapter in Hebrews that celebrates heroes of the faith.
