Hebrews 1

You will never be an angel.   You might have wings, but you aren’t going to be an angel.   You know why?

Angels are created beings meant to be servants.  You are different.  You are a created being designed to be like God.  You were made in the image and character of God.  You are better than an angel.  In fact, 1 Corinthians 6 says that one day Christians will judge angels.   I can understand that on an intellectual level, but I can’t imagine what it would look like.  Angels seem to be above me, how could I ever judge them?

But our discussion shouldn’t be about angels, or about any created beings, really.   Instead we should spend our time appreciating God the Father.

God loves us so much, that after He created us He communed with us. And as I think about it communion has always been at the heart of our creation.   God wants to interact with us.  So when we chose to rebel against God (Garden of Eden, apple, etc.) God reacted by reaching out, not by shutting down.  The author of Hebrews reminds us that God has spoken to us in many ways since the beginning.  One of those ways is through the prophets, but the best and most perfect way is through His Son.

Consider this (this is bound to increase your self esteem).   God loves you so much that He sent His only Son to re-open communication with you.  Now, this passage isn’t about communication, it’s about hierarchy and authority structures, but the message still comes through.   One of the things that Jesus communicates with us is His character, and the character of God Himself.   Jesus is the exact reflection of God, so if we see Jesus, we understand who God is.

At the same time I am reminded that we are supposed to be a reflection of Jesus, so when others see us they understand who God is.  Thinking of that, I don’t think that you can see the character of God as clearly through an angel as you can through a forgiven person.

What a great privilege and awesome responsibility is ours in Christ!

Feeling loved,
