1 Kings 3 -4; 2 Chronicles 1; Psalms 72

Wednesday

In our reading in Kings today, Solomon is visited by the Lord in a dream and is given the privilege to ask God for anything. If you could ask God for anything what would it be?

Would you ask for wisdom as Solomon did? Would you ask for an understanding heart to judge God’s people and be able to discern between good and evil? Well, needless to say, God is very pleased with Solomon’s request. What a great gift to be given by God. Who wouldn’t want to have the “wisdom of Solomon”?

Now here is the good news for us. We too have been given the privilege to ask God for this gift.  James 1:5 says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” (NKJV)

We get a small glimpse of Solomon’s wisdom in the story of the two women who battle over the child. It is so familiar to us, that it is easy to overlook the true genius of Solomon decision. I often wish that in the everyday dealings in our own country that the judicial system and those in leadership, who use a little more common sense and truly call upon the Lord for wisdom.

So my prayer for today and for our nation is that God would instill in us even just some of this wisdom, and maybe a little more.

Blessings for a day filled with the Lord’s wisdom

Pastor Kathy
