2 Samuel 11 – 12, 1 Chronicles 20

Saturday

Oh no, can it be… King David how can you do such a sinful thing?

We read today about the story of David and Bathsheba. Because of one sin, David keeps on sinning. He keeps falling farther and father into the trap that Satan had lured him into. There are so many things that David did wrong in this episode, that it’s hard to even know where to start. 1. He should have been at war with the rest of his army, what was he doing at home? 2. He let his own selfish desires control the situation and caused him to forget one of the 10 commandments. 3. When we find ourselves being lured into a bad situation, we need to just turn away. Put a stop to where are thoughts are going. 4. David tried to lure Uriah into sleeping with his wife, to deceive people into thinking the child was Uriah’s. 5. When that failed, he knowingly had Uriah sent to a place where not only he would get killed but other innocent men would be in harm’s way.

David could have, should have stopped at any point in this situation and owned up to his sin(s), but instead he kept making it worse but trying to cover up, deceive and murder the problem.

In the end, his terrible sin was exposed and he was repentant and confessed his sin, but the mess was still there and he was punished for his actions.

God will forgive you but we also have to realize that there could be lasting consequences for our actions. Was David still considered a “man after God’s own heart”? Yes, he was, but like all of us, David was flawed and that is why we need a savior to save us. That is why we need to have Christ Jesus in our lives to save us from ourselves.

If you need to ask God for forgiveness for something that you did, don’t hesitate to ask. He loves you – just like he loves David, flaws and all. He will forgive and our reward will be eternity with God in heaven.

Blessings on the day
