Tuesday
Saul has come to the end of his reign and there is no going back for him. He made his choice and his pride and arrogance won’t let him do anything but to continue to make wrong choices. So he hasn’t heard from God what to do. I’m convinced that even if he had heard from God he wouldn’t have listened. His track record shows us this much. So he does something that is despicable… he contacts a medium, or witch, the witch of Endor and asks her to contact Samuel. Do you remember the passage of scripture that tells us to avoid witchcraft and sorcery? (Deut 18:9-14; Galatians 5:19-21 to name a couple). I think we need to take a close look at what this is telling us, although it is pretty obvious – STAY AWAY FROM THE OCCULT! So you think, I do… but how many of you are just a little superstitious about something? Or do you follow you horoscope – you know… just for fun? Well, where do you draw the line? I don’t know – so I guess, the point for me is if it is not of God then it must be of satan, and I for one, just don’t need to go there.
In the meantime, David’s village of Ziklag is destroyed and his family is taken away by the Amalekites. David is victorious in getting his people back and killing the Amalekites.
Well, Saul is taken out of the picture and even his son Jonathan pays for his father’s mistakes. Saul does not want to be given into the hands of his enemies to be tortured, so he takes his own life.
In reading these two accounts we see the sharp contrast between being a follower of God and one who has chosen to take his own path. David is victorious, Saul is not. The message should be very clear for us, choose to follow God and win.
I hope you will choose the same path and follow Jesus.
Blessings on the day!
