2 Kings 20-21

Wednesday

Hezekiah was about to die but this one action saved his life.

Hezekiah’s faith made the impossible possible. There is hope in trusting God, even if no hope seems possible. Even when the shadow has been cast and grows long a dark, God can reverse it. God can reverse our suffering. We need to trust – this is our challenge, to trust God enough to believe with our whole heart that He has our best interest at heart. That all He wants is for us to have faith in Him enough to believe that the impossible can happen. That death can be overcome. (Rom 3:21-31). This is the gospel message right here in the Old Testament. God’s power to deliver us from death.

I think we would love to read that Hezekiah stayed true to God for the rest of his life, but unfortunately for the king, he falters and lets pride get the better of him. He puts his trust in the Babylonians and suffers the consequences for his action, he and the nation of Israel. This story reminds us of how important it is to stand firm till the very end. Paul warns us in 1 Corinthians 10:12 (NIV), “So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!”

I don’t know if you have caught this by now, but pride seems to have a way of undoing our trust, our faith, our belief in Jesus Christ. Don’t fall into that temptation.

Shalom

Pastor Kathy
